About

Window film, explained honestly

Window Film Facts is an independent, ad-free education project about how window film actually works — the real physics of solar energy and glass, and the honest reading of the numbers on a spec sheet. No brands to push, nothing to sell. Just the science, laid out so anyone can follow it.

How the site is organized

Everything is built around the Window Tint Performance Story: 48 short chapters across 5 series, each one building on the last.

  1. Series 1: The Energy Story — Where solar energy comes from and what it is. No glass, no film — just the energy itself. The vocabulary every later series depends on.
  2. Series 2: At the Surface — What happens when solar energy hits glass and interior materials — reflection, absorption, transmission, re-radiation, convection. Pure surface physics.
  3. Series 3: The Measurement Story — Specs, standards, and the honest evaluation of performance claims. The intellectual core: these chapters evaluate numbers, not products.
  4. Series 4: The Technology Story — How window film is actually built — construction methods, materials, mechanisms, dyes, haze, labels, and economics.
  5. Series 5: Proof & Practice — Independent verification and hands-on experiments that turn the catalog's physics into evidence you can check yourself.

Three ways to follow along

The same lessons live in three places, so you can learn however you like:

  • Right here — read the whole series at your own pace.
  • By emailsign up and we'll send one chapter a day, in order, so it stays digestible.
  • On social — the same posts, as a feed you can follow.

Our one rule: teach, don't sell

Every claim here is meant to be something you can check yourself — that's the entire point of Series 5, which turns the physics into experiments you can run with a thermometer and a sunny window. If a number can't survive scrutiny, it doesn't belong on a spec sheet, and it won't show up here without that caveat.
